The DP World Genesis Championship

The DP World Tour was in India previously and moved further east over the weekend to the Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Korea. Achieving success on home soil, Junghwan Lee claimed victory when he reached 11-under-par following an excellent final round on the Sunday.

The South Korean started the Sunday on 4-under-par and had a number of golfers ahead of him including overnight leaders Nacho Elvira and Mikael Lindberg who shared the lead on 8-under-par. While Lee made a bogey on his second hole, he turned things around with a string of birdies between holes 3 and 7, helping him reach 8-under by his final round’s halfway point.

Finding success on holes 10 and 14, Lee again tapped in for birdie on his closing 18^th hole, setting the standard to beat at 11-under-par. Sweden’s Lindberg fell away with a lacklustre 2-over final card while the Spaniard closed on two disappointing bogeys to return to 8-under. Englishman Laurie Canter finished in remarkable style with a long eagle putt on the 18^th to join Elvira on T2.

Canter was 100 feet from his target at the very front of the 18^th green and faced a tricky uphill putt to find the hole. The ball had just the right amount of pace and followed the left to right trajectory of the green as it climbed and then rolled down a central dip to find the back of the cup. The Englishman gave a pronounced fist bump as he secured a second-place finish.

Having finished ahead of his competitors, Junghwan Lee was thrilled to find out he’d achieved his first tour win at home 3 strokes clear of the field “This was my best round, especially as the gallery out there were really cheering for me. They gave me the strength I needed. I just hope I can live up to their expectations in the future as well.”
