NEW DATE FOR DURANT GOBLETS
Due to the great English weather and having to cancel the Durant Goblets last Sunday, we now have a revised date for the competition. The new date is Sunday 27th October and will go live for entry on Saturday 20th October at the usual time of 07.30am.
BUNKER WORKS
Our final phase of bunkering commenced on Tuesday after the team had set up on Monday. Following 80mm of rain from Saturday evening through to Monday, the ground is definitely softer than we would like but the course has held up well considering.
However, our original plans to start on the 13th have changed as that area by the river was wet, so work has commenced on the 11th giving us the shortest runs from the bottom of the car park, over drier land.
The weather is now looking very changeable over the next few days and as such we have discussed working patterns to ensure they keep up with the 5 week timescales of the project. As a result, we have agreed that with Saturday and Sunday's weather currently looking favourable, they will be on-site all weekend ensuring the project stays on schedule.
The 11th green will definitely be on a temporary and the hope is that they will be progressing onto the 12th by Saturday meaning that it could be on a temporary green. The course will therefore be heavily disrupted and the yardage be more than 100 yards shorter than the official length. As a result, we have decided to cancel Saturday's competitions and return the tee sheet to 4-ball social golf. Nick will complete this in the morning so you can turn your 3 ball tee times into 4's if you wish.
We will send updated pictures of the bunkering as they get shaped over the next couple of days.
CAR SHARING
As many of you may have seen, the bottom of the car park is closed off for the contractors and we have lost around 20 car parking spaces for the next few weeks.
Could we ask, that whilst pressures are on for spaces, everyone parks correctly but also where possible members car share to ensure we free up as many spaces as possible for everyone.
RESERVOIR
Our Ecologists will be on site on Monday to set up the badger sett exclusion work, along with the monitoring cameras. They will be wearing hi-vis jackets so will be very noticeable and will visit us each day subsequently for 28 days, including weekends, to check on the setts and badger activity in the area.
Once the 28 days have passed and they are confident all badgers have migrated, we can apply to Natural England to break up the setts.
WHATSAPP FOR ARRANGING TEE TIMES
We have purchased a mobile phone that will reside in the office and be used just to facilitate member WhatsApp groups, where members, new or established, will be able to post on there who are looking for a game as a one ball at certain times/dates so that others who also may be a one ball can link up with them and help integrate them into the club more if they are not already part of swindle groups.
This group is purely to assist with looking for a game of golf and it’s not to degenerate into a moaning platform, you can still do that by emailing me directly!
This will supplement the current Captain's roll-ups for new members.
If you would like to be added to the member WhatsApp group, please email me or Nick and we will add you to the group.
SPIKE BAR PROJECT
We are currently undertaking a project to turn the raised part of the Spike Bar into a private meeting/Board Room, or somewhere to host private dining for up to 12.
The work started on Tuesday and will take around a week to complete, with a glass front and frosted glass for privacy.
We will then decorate during October to make the room sellable from around the end of October. The room can also be used for those wanting more privacy at events such as a Sunday Carvery or Curry Evening.
CLUB VERSUS ARTISAN MATCH
The club has its annual match upcoming against the Artisans on Saturday 19th October.
The match is a 4-ball better ball and the Captain is looking for club members to help ensure the Artisans are this years winners of the wooden spoon! This is open to both men and ladies to participate.
Sign-up is now open and members can only sign themselves up for the event and we will run the draw sheet a couple of days before the match. If we are oversubscribed we will draw names to play and create a reserve list.
There will be a 2-course meal to follow and if you are playing in the match, there is an expectation that you will stay for the meal to ensure the friendly rivalry on the course is continued in the clubhouse into the evening.
Any club member who is a 6 or 7-Day member is eligible to play for the club.
