Hello golfers,
How refreshing it was this past weekend to verge away from the superstars of our game and instead watch the best that our amateur game has to offer. The 45th Walker Cup between GB&I and USA saw records broken as the GB&I boys ran out comfortable winners, 16.5-9.5, the biggest winning margin for GB&I since the Walker Cup began in 1922. Leading 10-6 going into the final day's singles matches, GB&I knew they only needed 3.5 points to secure victory and they did this in fine fashion.
A few recognisable names from this year's Open Championship, Ashley Chesters and Paul Dunne, were influential in GB&I's winning team. Whereas as Jordan Niebrugge, who finished sixth at The Open, had a miserable time at Royal Lytham & St Annes as the American lost all three of his matches. But the one golfer who stood out the most was Jimmy Mullen who became the first GB&I player to have a perfect 4-0 record since the likes of Paul Casey and Luke Donald back in 1999 - not bad company to be in!
Sam Ryder Trophy
On Saturday we hosted our annual Samuel Ryder Trophy which is an open competition attended by amateur golfers with a handicap of 9 or below. It's a 36-hole competition with foursomes in the morning and fourball betterball in the afternoon. As always there was some spectacular golf on show and course knowledge proved extremely worthy as you will see in the results below.

Nett 3rd - H. Holmes & A. Skinner (Verulam)
Congratulations to our winners and well done for once again getting some Verulam names on the trophy! Also, a special mention to our star junior pairing of Harvey Holmes and Adam Skinner. They shot a fantastic 74 in the foursomes and 75 in the fourball. This proves to show that the hard work pays off and we look forward to seeing the vast improvements continue in both of their games. Well done boys!
Durant Goblets
There were some great scores during this year's Durant Goblets. This competition is a fourball betterball bogey. This was quite hard to come to terms with for some of our members with cards being marked like we'd never seen them before! Anyhow, below are the results, well done to all those who played.

Joel vs. Toppo - PGA Matchplay - Result
As you are probably away Joel and Steve were drawn to play each other in the quarter finals of the Herts PGA matchplay. The result of the match was a well won 5&3 in the favour of Joel. As the saying goes, "age before beauty" prevailed, and Steve loves the job so much he didn't want to upset the boss!

Last weekend saw all the young budding golfers back in to action at the Samuel Ryder Golf Academy. Over 30 juniors attended the Saturday & Sunday sessions which are now operating on a morning and afternoon basis to cater for all families wanting to get their children involved.
As ever the Player of the Week Awards were awarded to those children who gave the most to the session and were full of enthusiasm.
Well done to Katie Welsh and Stanley Bedwood who were this week's winners and who are pictured below!!
It's been a busy week here custom fitting wise as we have improved three people's games with new sets of irons. Distance and accuracy was gained in all three cases and the golf is not only being played better by these people but their enjoyment has risen too!
