Are you playing the Correct Ball for your Swing Speed?
Playing the right type of ball for your swing speed is as important as using the correct shaft and loft in your driver. Last week Allen 'Thriller' Miller booked a ball fitting session on our GC2 launch monitor. Allen uses the Srixon AD333 golf ball. Looking at the ball data Allen wasn't achieving as much ball speed as he would like. We tested various balls on the market and found that the Callaway Supersoft ball performed the best. Its ultra low 38 compression allows the ball to compress easier upon lower clubhead impact which created 3 mph more driver ball speed.
Looking at Allen's launch conditions his driver was creating a launch angle that was too high and too much backspin which was causing high, weak shots. We changed his driver loft from 13.5 degrees to 9.5 degrees. This lowered launch by 4 degrees and reduced backspin by over 1000rpm. All in all, by using the correct ball and driver settings Allen gained 12 yards of carry distance and lowered ball flight by 6 yards which creates far more roll when it hits the ground.
This is what Allen 'Thriller' Miller had to say about the experience:
"On Saturday morning I immediately noticed, following my drive off the first tee, that I had a much lower launch angle and my ball had come to rest some 10-15 yards beyond the 150 marker - this was into the wind. On the second hole my ball had come to rest just before the fairway bunker - again this was into the wind. By the time I got round to the 15th, the wind was very strong and we were driving directly into the wind. Under these circumstances I usually fail to carry the chasm. On this day I carried the chasm and found my ball some 20-25 yards beyond it. Joel said I would get a longer carry and a longer overall distance, and when I hit the ball correctly I have proved him right"
Take a look at the Callaway Supersoft Video I made. If this ball is for you it can transform your golf game.

FootJoy Shoe Fitting Day
Last Wednesday we hosted our first ever FootJoy shoe fitting day at Verulam. A total of 12 members attended the fitting. All but two people were wearing the wrong size of shoes for their feet.
Wearing the incorrect size can severely affect the durability of your shoes leading to cracking of the leather and rubbing on the heels.
Here is a selection of members' measurement:
Joel Saunders was 8.5 medium now 8.5 narrow
Mick Russell was 8.5 medium now 7 wide
Chris Campbell was 6 wide now 5.5 wide
Pop in store to see what all the fuss is about, but hurry, they're running out fast!

Lesson 3 - Having achieved a better overall address position it was now time to work on the swing. Our champion
Bob Milner set the club in a good position at the top of the swing, however from the top the right shoulder would start the downswing causing the club to work across the ball and into a steep angle of attack. This was causing low, left to right ball flight.
We then started working on trying attacking the ball in to out and up to the ball. A feeling was trying to swing the arms right of target. This also improved attack angle and resulted in a higher ball flight with a slight right to left fade. Notice the swing comparison above. Swing 'A' is very much across the ball into impact whereas Swing 'B' is from a more inside path.

M. Brown Junior Organiser Report Thanks to those of you who played at Chesfield Downs on saturday. Although we were beaten 9 1/2 to 6. 1/2 it was a really great performance as we were one short which meant that one of the matches was an almost impossible task.
Our captain
Callum Volunteered to take on two very capable players and although puting up a great show was unable to prevail, and when you think that result gave the opposition 4pts you can see it was a Close match. So well done everybody.
Have a great week and see you all soon,
Regards,
Joel, Glen, Laurence and
Stephen
