You may remember a few weeks ago my Coaching news was highlighted by the swing changes we made to Andy Martin. Well since then Andy has been working hard on his adjustments and progressed this week to win the April Medal and Lombard Trophy Qualifier with a nett 68.
Not only has Andy been receiving coaching from JS Golf, he also has a new custom fitted PING G30 driver. Andy knows the importance of custom fitting and found far more consistency with the G30 driver with the correct loft and shaft which was one of the factors to his nett 68.
This is what Andy had to say:
'I haven't enjoyed my golf so much in years and a great deal of credit has to go to Joel, Glen and the team.
Joel has taken my swing under his wing (which has been a challenge) but also Glen, as with so many juniors at the club, has encouraged my son Stefan who now can't stay away from the course to the extent that he was willing the football season to end so he could play more golf.
Joel fitted me for a set of Callaway Apex irons and this has really improved my ball striking even off my miss-hits, but also a Cleveland RTX 2.0 wedge system to match in, that has given me confidence with my approach yardages into the green. The final asset in the bag has been the fitting for a new G30 driver which, (touch wood) has kept me so much straighter but also for me has avoided the destructive '3 off the tee'.

This week's custom fitting success comes from Neil Kelly. Neil's current driver was an off the shelf purchase, and looking at the numbers that were produced on our GC2 Launch monitor it certainly wasn't suited for him.
From looking at his numbers his launch angle was far too low caused by not enough loft on the club. Secondly there was for too much left to right slice spin on the ball which from what Neil was saying is his killer bad shot.
We started with the PING SF Tec head in 12 degrees. The SF TEC is a draw bias head. The weight in the head is positioned slightly more towards the heel encouraging the toe of the club to kick in and square up complimented by a slightly lighted head. Having tried a few other combinations we ended up with the PING G30 SF TEC 11.4 degrees. This club not only gained him 23 yards of total distance, it turned his destructive slice into a very slight draw.

To finish the fitting I fitted a slighter larger grip to fit his hand size.

April Medal
On Saturday, 5 April we had our first medal without preferred lies. With the course almost at full length it proved a stern test with the SSS rising to 73 for the day. Some great scores came in throughout the day but it was Andy Martin who had the lowest score of the day which saw him qualify for the Lombard Trophy. He will join me at Walton Heath on 8th July. If we then win there, we will qualify for the national pro-am championships at Gleneagles.
