Glen visits Gainsborough
As many of you know, Assistant Professional Glen Portelli plays PING golf clubs. Last week he went to the PING UK Headquarters in Gainsborough to get his specifications checked before the forthcoming season. Glen enjoyed using PING last year and was happy with his equipment. However, his wedges have been giving him some issues in the soft ground conditions. After using a GC2 monitor to analyse Glen's pitching technique, PING had noticed that his current wedges had the incorrect bounce angle.
Definition of bounce angle….
Glen's bounce angle wasn't big enough so the leading edge was "digging" into the ground when chipping and pitching. PING increased Glen's bounce angle to stop him from taking big divots, so the club would have less interaction with the ground making pitching and chipping more forgiving. Most club golfers are not using the correct bounce angle on their wedges, if you would like a FREE "bounce angle" test click here. Or speak to our professional staff for more information.
PING G30 Gains Extra Distance
Single figure golfer Richard Whittaker booked a custom fit session for a new driver. He had lost all confidence with his driver and had reverted to using his Callaway X Hot 3 wood which was performing extremely well. My task was to find a driver that he could hit consistently and better than his trusted 3 wood.
We recorded some numbers on our Foresight GC2 Launch monitor. It was clear that his current driver was not performing as it should.
Richard's main problem was that he wasn't generating as much backspin as he needed too. This is why the 3 wood was working well for him. It became clear my aim was to increase backspin which would keep the ball in the air longer.
We went through the various models, lofts and shafts to discover which combination worked the best for him. Eventually the result was a PING G30 SF TEC 12 degree (draw bias head) with a TFC 419 shaft (soft tip counterbalance to promote backspin) regular flex.

10 Yard Challenge Leaderboard
Richard Whittaker - 14 Yards
Last week's challengers were the dynamic duo of Tim O' Donovan and Prashantha Nagaraja. Having taken a 'stuffing' last weekend we were keen to regain the winning feeling. Unfortunately we couldn't……
We started well birdying the first two holes to be one up. We slowly let the lead slip and were three down at the turn. Tim birdied 13 to go four up and then the captain won the 14th with a 4 nett three to move back to 3 down. Unfortunately we halved 15 and 16 to lose the match 3 down.
If you wish to challenge us, enter your names on the challenge board. Dates are available until the end of June.
