"I'm John. I'm a Callaway junkie. I have a problem. I bought all of the new drivers for 2014: BB, Alpha, X2 hot. They're all good drivers. The new 815 is just on a whole other level! The 815 is super forgiving! Mis-hits aren't really mis-hits anymore! You can tell the sweet spot of the driver is a lot bigger. So the driver is way more forgiving and still crazy long! I've always had a thing about how the drivers looks at address. Most drivers look like they have a closed/shut face. Not the new drivers! They both look like the face is squared off. Really clean look. Like the old ft tour drivers. The sound of the new driver is way better too. Comparing the new driver to the old Alpha, it's almost like the old driver sounds like a tin can, if you can believe that? Naturally, it's super easy to adjust. Very easy to control the flights and hit different shots! This baby is gonna be with me for a while"

"I have a lot of spin off the tee with my driver. Now with the gravity core set in the down position I have less spin, more accurate drives with a bunch more distance. Have played a couple of rounds with it as a result I had more drives in the fairway, shorter second shots and my scores went down. Limited amount of time on the course and range due to winter, but looking forward to the spring".
We have the latest Foresight GC2 Launch Monitor and Custom shafts available to undertake the most comprehensive custom fitting session around.

Ebay

This week's latest golfer to gain yardage and consistency was Ian Palfrey. Mr Palfrey was fairly happy with his current PING i20 irons but purchased them online and was not custom fitted. He now understands the importance of custom fitting and decided to book a fitting session on our Mizuno DNA Fitting System. We went through the usual process of ascertaining club head speed, knuckle to floor measurement and height and then got down the hitting some balls. Here are his numbers:
Ball Speed was 104 mph now 106 mph
Launch was 16.8 degrees now 16.0 degrees
Backspin was 4972 rpm now 5365 rpm
Total Distance was 151 yards now 158 yards
Dispersion was 3 yards right now 1 yard left of target
To summarise we increased ball speed, lowered launch increased back spin (for more control when landing), increased distance by 7 yards and hit the ball closer to the target.
Ian was fitted for the Mizuno JPX 850 Forged irons, 1 degree flat, Dynamic Golf XP 115 regular flex standard length.

Teeing Your Ball Up
Where you position the ball on the teeing ground dramatically changes the view of the hole. Take the 1st here at Verulam for example. How many of you consistently hit your tee shot right of the large oak tree? Due to the layout of tee and the hedge running along the left side if you were tee the ball up on the left side it turns the hole into more of a right to left dog leg and points you towards the large oak on the right. This is fine if you hit a right to left draw because it opens up the hole, but as most of us favour the left to right shot this position is not ideal.
The picture on the right shows me setting up to the right side of the tee. See how the view of the shot improves greatly and makes the shot look far more inviting. This position now allows me to aim down the left side of the fairway and use the natural fade of the ball to move back to the middle of the fairway.
This doesn't just apply to the first hole. Next time you play think about where you tee your ball up. It does make a difference!!!
If there are any improvements you would like me to make to my weekly newsletter do not hesitate to let me know. I strive to make them enjoyable and informative for you. Click here to get in touch if you have any suggestions.
Enjoy the rest of the newsletter and hope to see you at Verulam soon!

Joel, Glen and Stephen
