Greetings from Joel Saunders
Verulam Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Welcome to this weeks' Verulam Professional Shop Newsletter.

It seems like such a long time ago that I would be writing these newsletters with the warm sun shining. We are now well into the winter, and the game of golf completely changes when the temperature drops. Here are some tips on how to manage yourself around a wet cold golf course.

1. Take more club - The cold temperature means that the ball will not travel as far. I have played with soooo many members who "under club" and think they hit their 7 iron 150 yards when it only goes 130 yards. Click here to get in touch if you want to find out how far you hit your clubs

2. New grips - Make sure your clubs don't need new grips. With your clubs sitting in the cold all week and the damp atmosphere, the rubber on your grips will not perform as well. New grips are essential

3. Spiked golf shoes - for your own safety we recommend you bring your shoes in so we can check your spikes, the ground is getting very slippery and it will also help you balance during your golf swing

4. Base Layer - I can't play golf with lots of layers on, I feel like it restricts my swing and turn. I can't recommend highly enough how good base layers are! They keep me really warm without wearing lots of layers.

5. Hand Warmers and Mittens - Cold hands = loss in clubhead speed, loss of clubhead speed = loss of distance. Keep your hands warm to increase distance during the winter….. another tip - keep your golf ball in your pocket for as long as possible. This helps keeping the balls core warm which equates to greater distance.

If you have any questions about any of these tips, please chat to us in the Pro Shop and recieve our Professional advice, or click here to get in touch.

Can you believe there are only four shopping weekends to go until Christmas? If you would like us to order yourself anything specific with the Verulam logo, we need to have the order by this weekend to guarantee delivery before Christmas.

Please give us a call in the Pro Shop or pay us a visit if you want to place an order.

Each week throughout the winter we will be product testing and reviewing the latest golf equipment available to you.

This week we are reviewing the NEW Mizuno MP-T5 wedges.

Forged precision with 25 loft / bounce options

The MP-T5 wedges deliver the touch and precision of Mizuno's renowned Grain Flow Forging construction where it benefits most - around the greens.

A refined teardrop profile - based on the tour grind of short game magician Luke Donald, allows mastery of the ball from a variety of set ups and positions. There are now 25 combinations of loft and bounce - with 2 sole types to suit varying techniques and turf conditions.

Mizuno's Grain Flow Forged heads combine the softest touch with a backspin rate only possible through the use of loft specific grooves. Mizuno's Quad Cut Groove concept utilizes a wider, shallow groove from 54-62 lofts (to grab softer, partial strikes) and a narrower, deeper configuration from 49-53 degrees (for fuller shots). All grooves are precision CNC milled to ensure exact manufacturing consistency from wedge to wedge.

Custom Stamping

We are now offering Custom Stamping to all our Grain Flow Forged MP Wedge lines. Choose up to six characters in one of 12 different colours and personalise your new wedges today.

Fill The Gap

Here At Verulam we are always motivated to find NEW ways to help our Customers LOWER their Scores….

We are lucky enough to have access to one of the most unique pieces of technology availiable in todays market…..The GC2 Ball Flight Monitor.

This Monitor effectively shows us how far your ball will travel with each club.

Do you ever feel like you hit your 7 iron the same distance as your 8 iron??
Do you think Rory McIlroy goes into tournaments guessing how far he hits each club??
Do you know what club you should be using from the 100 & 150 Yards Marker.

Book a GAP Fitting with us today to find out how far each of your clubs go.

We welcome our new Ladies Club Captain Jeannie Taylor. Last Wednesday Jeannie drove in hitting one shot with Abe Mitchell's historic club and one with her custom fitted Callaway X2 Hot driver. Surprisingly Jeannie hit Abe's club further than her own hitting it over 140 yards…. And no Jeannie, you cannot swap it for your own Callaway driver.

Trivia Question
