Sky Sports News
On Monday I visited the Sam Ryder Academy School to film for Sky Sports News. I conducted a clinic for eight selected children whilst being filmed. The cameras then came back to the golf club to see the history of Sam Ryder and talk with the Club Captain Malcolm Wickens and General Manager Paul Keen.

Carl’s Lesson of the Week – Lorraine Martin
One of our promising Lady members, Lorraine Martin is Carl’s chosen lesson of the week!
A product of our outstanding Academy Programme, Lorraine’s golf has come on leaps and bounds since beginning the game. Lorraine came to Carl struggling with both contact and direction, both proving to be incosistent in recent rounds. It didn’t take long for Carl to diagnose the problem and implement some remarkable improvements in Lorraine’s golf swing.
Having watched a handful of swings, a quick exercise proved that the key issue to the breakdown in Lorraine’s downswing was coming from an excessive pulling on the club in transition, causing the clubhead to kick out ahead of the hands (before pic - left). Several compensations need to be made from here to hit the golf ball, resulting in a variety of outcomes and ultimately, this was the root cause of Lorraine’s troubles!

After 10 minutes working on some drills tailored to the problem, we encorporated the feeling that Lorraine was ‘leaving her hands at the top’ to stop her pulling on the shaft, Lorraine was then able to initate her downswing from the ground up (after pic – right) . By doing this, Lorraine was able to use her body much more efficently, keeping the club in the desired position for a solid, centred contact.

RTX 4 Get more spin with sharper tour zip grooves, more durable laser milling and centred rotex face milling. Sharper, deeper grooves slice through grass, sand and water for more consistent spin on every shot. Longer-lasting laser milling brings face roughness right to the conforming limit for more friction and more spin on all shots. Milling that’s in-line with your strike pattern increases backspin on all full, pitch, and chip shots.

New irons to improve your game |
Buying a set of clubs is exciting, but can be a tricky decision - you might love the look of the short irons, but feel a bit daunted by the longer clubs further up the set. However, you can always mix and match your clubs so that your long irons are more forgiving and your short irons are more workable, allowing you to strike approach shots from any distance with confidence. |
Mix & match with Lynx Why not try combining the short irons of Lynx's Forged CB series with the longer irons of the Prowler VT? The VT's extra forgiveness, provided by a hollow head design, gives you better performance on any off-centre strikes, meaning that your long iron shots won't stray as wide when you mishit the ball. Combine this with the Forged CB's short irons, which feature a narrow sole, thin topline and minimal offset for better workability and increased confidence lower down the set, and you'll be peppering the flags from your wedges up to your long irons. Could mixing sets be the answer you've been looking for? |
