I trust you have all had a good week and enjoyed the PGA Championship over the weekend. I must say what a thrilling climax it was.

This Saturday we play host to the August Medal. If you wish to play and are unable to get to the club to enter, call the professional shop on 01727 861401 and we will endeavour to find you a game.

Best Putter in the Club Competition

I am hosting the inaugural Best Putter in the Club Competition. This will run from 11am until 5pm. There will be a 9 hole putting competition where the first prize will be a PING bag. I will have all of the Odyssey Putter range to try, and the only clause is you must use one of my putters and not your own. Entry is completely FREE and I will be on hand to give putting tips and custom fitting advice.

As an added bonus, any putter purchased on the day will receive a 10% discount off the price. If you are struggling with your putting, this is a great opportunity to get some FREE advice and grab a custom fitted putter at a bargain price. On Sunday under the watchful eye of hurricane Big Bertha, four hardy pairs braved the weather to play in the Family Foursomes competition.

Driving Range Changes

There have been some changes to the health and safety regulations regarding the driving range. Due to recent incidences and the general safety to golfers, woods are now BANNED from the driving range. Woods now only be hit from the covered driving bay area. We ask all users to respect this new rule as it is in your own best interests. Collection of range balls is strictly prohibited and all balls hit on the range must be purchased from the professional shop.

PING G30 - Special Offer

This week we have had 2 success stories involving our members reaping the benefits of the latest technology in the golf market.

Martin Wallace now hits PING G30 irons 175 yards Carry!

Our first story comes from scratch team player Martin Wallace. Martin made the error of buying a set of Mizuno irons off the rack without being fitted for them. Unsurprisingly Martin found that they did not bring him the same consistency that he has always had in his game. He came to us in need of a new set of irons but he wanted to see for sure that they would benefit him.

He liked the look of the newly released PING G30. These new irons have been solely designed to improve a player's consistency of strike and overall distance. To prove to him that these irons would truly transform his mid-range play, our GC2 launch monitor came into play. He found that he gained an average of 13 yards carry on a 7 iron which brought his 7 iron up to 175 yards!! He also found that being a tall man, he needed his shafts longer than standard to achieve his maximum power, and a shaft that would match his swing speed. Adding all of these factors together, his consistency and accuracy greatly improved, we and PING have yet another extremely happy customer!

David Mabbutt - 34 yards gained with Callaway X2 Hot irons

Our other success story comes from member David Mabbutt. David also came to take part in a fitting session, and very similarly to Martin he found that the advanced technology brought to him in the new Callaway X2 Hot irons greatly improved his game immediately. He gained an average of 34 yards over his old irons, which is a huge distance to gain without changing the swing itself. David felt this was too much of a gain to miss out of and got himself kitted out with the set of irons, and also took advantage of the FREE wedge promotion.

David took his new clubs out on the morning of their delivery and he came back to the shop after his round with a glowing smile on his face. In his many years of playing golf he had never had a hole in one. But the first round with his new irons he was striking the ball so much better, and he managed to hole out in one on the 17th here at Verulam!! Well done David.
