On Saturday we held the Kellard Trophy (Club Championship). The weather was a strong 26 degrees Celsius which made for a very tough 36 holes of golf. There was a good standard of golf being played including two eagles on par 4's! The top of the leader board was very tight with James Surridge on -2, Louis Matamala on level par and Calum Marjoram on +2. 

The second round started with all 3 players under par after 5 holes but it was Louis who had a one shot lead going into the back 9 of the PM round. James Surridge was one shot behind going down the 18th and needed a birdie to force a 3-hole playoff. He made his birdie and the playoff of the 1st, 2nd and 18th begun. Both Louis and James were even par with only the 18th hole to come to try and separate the two. 

Both players got good drives away but it was James' length that got him up to the green in two shots. Louis played the hole solidly leaving James a downhill medium length putt to win the championship with a birdie. He made his birdie and James became the winner of the Kellard Trophy for the 7th time. Well done James and well done to everyone who took part in the great day!

Two's

As always we held our pro v1 two's balls sweep. As we had many low handicappers out in the field there were unsurprisingly a lot of two's!

Last Sundays challengers were Vice -Captain Rik Bird and Allen Miller. 

An enjoyable game was had by all with an overall result of 4up.

Scott Bailey gains 11 yards carry distance with G30 irons

Scott felt that he was not getting enough distance out of his current Titleist Irons and booked in for a PING fitting on my GC2 launch monitor. Having analysed his current Titleist AP1 irons it became apparent why he was struggling.

1. Flex of the shaft was far too stiff  
2. The weight of the shaft was far too heavy

After trying a variety of shafts ranging from graphite to steel and from extra light to regular weight we agreed on a PING CFS distance SR (soft regular shaft). Red Colour lie angle.

Notable ball data information

Ball Speed - was 76mph now 83mph 
Side Spin - was 428 rpm left now 105 rpm left 
Backspin - was 4205 rpm now 4898 rpm 
Carry distance - was 125 yards now 136 yards

PING G30 Preview

As we are fast approaching the release of the new PING G30 Driver, fairways and hybrids we thought we could talk you through a few pointers about it. 

The main improvement from the G25 is the turbulators that are on top of the driver. 

The turbulators are designed to stop air resistance which gains on average 3mph which would turn in to about 10 yards on an average speed golf swing. 

PING have kept a very similar head design to the G25 which gives loyal PING enthusiasts more incentive to keep up with the latest technology from one of golf's most classic brands.
