In the winter, water in bunkers becomes a more common sight, but do you know the ins and outs of Rule 25-1 that governs where you can and can’t take relief? Free relief
If you want a free drop, you must locate your nearest point of relief inside the bunker and drop here, even if that means your stance is outside the bunker. If complete relief is impossible but you can find a wet spot where you can hit from you can drop here, if it’s no nearer the hole, to give yourself what’s called ‘maximum available relief’. Penalty drop
If the whole bunker is full of water and hasn’t been ruled GUR, you have to drop outside the bunker with a one-stroke penalty. When doing this you must keep the point where the ball lay directly between the flag and where you’re now dropping. |
