Congratulations to Steve Fownes who correctly answered last weeks Trivia Question - what is the colour of Bubba Watsons driver? The answer was of course PINK and well done to everyone who answered correctly.
This weeks trivia question:

Thanks to everyone that attended my sale afternoon on Saturday. Lots of bargains were taken advantage of, however there are still plenty of deals to be had, so please pop into the shop and take a look. Here are a just few bargains that we have on offer:
Would you like to gain extra distance and improve your accuracy at the same time? Well that's exactly what one of our members Matt Bliss achieved. Matt knows how important custom fitting is, and decided to book a custom fitting session on my GC2 launch monitor. Matt has never found a driver that he could hit consistently, and has always used a three wood from the tee despite being known as one of the best ball strikers amongst his peers.
Having watched Matt hit a few shots, it became clear his poor shot was a miss to the right caused by his slightly steep angle of attack into the ball, and his open club face at impact. These two factors caused too much left to right side spin and backspin. We found that the club which suited him best was the new Big Bertha Alpha.
The purpose of the new design of the head of the club is to reduce backspin. We also changed the gravity core on the sole of the club which also dramatically reduced his spin rate. Once the backspin was reduced, we then altered the face to a draw setting which then made it easier to square the face up. To compliment the fitting experience, we then fitted the same grip that he uses on his irons to maintain the consistency of feel. As a result we gained a staggering 37 yards from the tee from his current driving club, and also improved his accuracy.
This is what Matt had to say:
"Before I went to Joel I was a Brief with a very specific brief - find me a driver that's reliably straight and long.
First things first, he immediately recognised that aesthetics were important. After finding a head shape I liked we hit various loft and shaft options and reviewed the stats from the GC2 launch monitor.
The stats were surprising because the driver I thought was best was actually second best upon examining the data.
With a couple of tuitional tips from Joel and the right club, I ended up gaining 37 yards. The great news is that it wasn't a flash in the pan - in front of a baying gaggle of doubters on Saturday, I hit it to within 60 yards of the 1st green (the fact that I then thinned my 2nd shot and walked off with a 6 is irrelevant for the purpose of this testimonial).
I used a custom fitting company when I bought my irons 18 months ago, but Joel's fitting session was just as thorough and he will be my first port of call in the future. I am truly impressed by the service I have received and the price I have paid. Bring on PGA Catalunya next weekend".
Callaway Fitting Day
On Friday the 21st of March, I have a Callaway Fitting day here at Verulam. Times will be booked every 45 minutes from 10-4pm. If you would like to hit the ball like Matt Bliss, book a session with Callaway's fitting technician. Call the shop to book an appointment, or click here to get in touch.
The bunker renovations are close to being completed. They are working currently on the 11th hole, which will result in another extremely strong par 5 to compliment the new 18th hole. Below are a few photos taken last Sunday.
Old Course Competition
This Saturday, we are holding the Old Course competition. This is a Fourball Betterball competition playing the course the old way round. The layout consists of holes 1-2, 10-16, 3-9, 17 and 18.
