Men’s Scratch Team Chase Promotion

After a resounding 9 ½ - 2 ½ over bottom of the league Mill Green, our Scratch team have given themselves a chance of promotion to Division two for the coming season. With 2nd place Welwyn Garden City already finished their fixtures; our team need another convincing win away against Brickendon Grange on September 17th to clinch promotion. All members are welcome to watch and offer their support at the match.

Members Bringing Guests

As you were aware last year there was a change in the club status following withdrawal from the amateur sports club scheme.

Accordingly members are reminded that to minimise our corporation tax liability following our withdrawal on 31st March 2016 and in order to qualify for the member’s green fee rate, members will need to pay for their golfing guests at the point of sale. If the member does not pay for their guest then the concessionary green fee rate will not be available.

Coaching news

Our Olympic GOLD Medallist

Well done to our Academy Graduate member Ed Magee on his GOLD medal in the Special Olympics last week.

The tournament was played over 3 days with 9 holes played on each day. Ed blew the field away with the practice he had been doing in the build up with Academy Director Laurence Allen.

I’m sure Ed will want to talk you through his achievement when next up the club so please do congratulate him.

Lesson of the Week – Jack Jennings

Our lesson of the week features one of Carl’s clients that is completely new to the game of golf. He arrived at his first lesson with no real understanding of the golf swing. Despite this, Jack made his first few swings without any instruction as seen below.

Carl spent 45 minutes stabilising Jack’s lower body in order to eliminate his overswing, as well as giving him a stable foundation to produce the desired sequence and power in the downswing. Jack turned up to his second lesson a few days later with his initial swings looking much improved.

With more lessons booked in and an enthusiasm to learn, we think Jack could be one of our future stars at Verulam.

Final Chipping Clinic!

Carl’s third and final chipping clinic will be taking place on Friday, 25 August at 6pm. The sheet is now up in the men’s changing room to book your spot. Several of our members have benefitted already! This event is open to Ladies and juniors as well, just pop into the shop to reserve your spot.

CDP with Laurence Allen – 2 MORE CLIENTS REMAINING!

Our Academy Director Laurence offers you the chance to meet your golfing goals:

The golfing season is in full flow and looking ahead now to those end of summer goals I am launching the CDP Program (Continual Development Program).

The CDP program will examine all aspects of your game from tee to green and will discover the most effective ways to reach your goals!

A one hour on course session is the start where I watch you play followed by a coffee to discuss strengths & weaknesses.

Cost of initial CDP is £35, I am running a special promotion this month where you receive the CDP FREE of charge when you sign up to the 4 or 6 hour package.

Should you sign up for the 6 hour package not only do you receive the analysis session FREE, but you will also receive a follow up on course lesson (1hr 30min) after the 6 hours of coaching.

We are now in August with maybe just over two months of the season left, the time is NOW to make sure you meet your goals for the season.
