Welcome to this week's newsletter,
This week's update takes a look at the Club Championship weekend here at Verulam, some exciting new offers from the JS Pro Shop, and another Nearest the Pin challenge.
We hope you enjoy the read.
The Kellard Trophy
On Saturday, 23 July the club held one of its most prestigious competitions, The Kellard Trophy (Club Championship). 55 of the clubs most elite golfers battled the course for 36 holes to determine the Gross Champion of the club, a great honour for every member.
With the weather absolutely perfect and the course in immaculate condition, we were expecting some good scores. Callum Austin was the first player to mount a challenge, recording a cracking gross 71 (nett 66). This was Callum's first round under par, and what a time to do it!
We had to wait until the last group before we saw the next sub par round. This time it was James Surridge who also matched Austin's 71 (-1).
Simon Wright and Callum Walker also carded solid rounds of 75, and Louis Matamala came in with 74 to keep them within touching distance going into the afternoon round.
Going into the final afternoon round, the last group consisted of Callum Austin (71), James Surridge (71) and Louis Matamala (74). James and Callum were neck and neck going into the back 9, but James' experience came good down the stretch and edged Austin out with a 2 shot victory. Well played James.

For the rest of the members who can only dream of winning the Kellard, there is always the Mellard Trophy. This year's champion was Henry Rios.
