What a busy Easter weekend we had at Verulam. It kicked off with 74 members participating in the Captain v Vice Captain match, where the Captain's team were victorious thanks to them winning the last 6 matches to win by only a point. Then it was on to the April Medal and Lombard Qualifier with an impressive 118 players entering. Following this was the St. George's Day singles Stableford, followed by the RNLI Fourball Betterball Stableford.
A Message from Natalie, Eva and I...
We would like to thank all of the members for the cards, gifts and money. We have set up a savings account for Eva which we have put all the money into, and she will have access to it once she turns 18. Eva loves all of her new outfits, and you will probably see her showing some of them off down at the club soon.
This weeks April Medal Division 1 winner Richard Kiff (Kiffy) booked a lesson with me last week after saying he was struggling with his golf swing, and had too many thoughts going through his mind. As a past club champion, he knows how to swing a golf club and to get the ball in the hole, howeverhe has been trying different things with his swing which is making it worse.
We firstly looked at his basic setup. His grip and posture was great, but ball position and alignment needed a little work. Ball position was too far forward, and his his alignment was a long way right of target. From the poor ball position, his consistency of strike was not as he liked. From this position the takeaway was far too much from the inside. This caused the club to get too far behind his body which made returning the club back square extremely difficult. I gave him a couple of drills and feelings and away he went.
As you can see in the picture, his intended target is circled, and notice how far right of target he is aiming. Because of this, the takeaway is far too far inside the line.

Bob Colby recently won the Miskin Salver with a magnificent score of 40 points. Bob attends monthly coaching sessions to keep his game in shape. Bob likes to keep his swing thoughts simple. We work hard on maintaining the fundamentals in his address position such as alignment and ball position. We have found that if we achieve these goals, Bob's ball striking improves with greater consistency. For the last 15 minutes of every lesson we always take a look his short game to make sure he is working on the same things. Bob puts his latest win down to striking the ball with far more consistency and holing a few putts.

A message from the Junior Organiser Adrian Doyle....
Well what a day we had at Verulam. It was nearly the great escape with Verulam 6-1 down after the away leg against Whipsnade. Verulam Juniors were written off but they had other ideas with the opposition 1 short Verulam Juniors were 1 up Callum Walker led the march in Monty style with a 4-2 win followed by the Verulam equivalent to Ian Poulter, Tommy Naylor winning 2 up. The Captain Molly Doyle won 3&1 - could this be our day? Joe Shoemaker had a great game, but his back 9 let him down and he went down 5&4. Adam Scott parred the 17th to win 2&1 and it all fell on the young shoulders of Lauren Elliott with the game going down to the last green and the last putt. The final match was halved meaning although Verulam won 5 1/2 to 1 1/2. We lost out by a half. Many commiserations to the team, but it's still our first victory of the year so onwards and upwards. Many thanks to Mo Roe for helping out with the starting as I was attending a funeral.
Why not come and play at the Home of the Ryder Cup.
